On the final game of the season for both clubs, a crowd of 301 people came down to Lowther Road to watch Virginia Water face the Sumas, with both clubs safe from relegation and with former Sumas players Jack Mullan and James Clark returning with the visitors for the first time since leaving the club.
The game started brightly with Gethin-Barkway crossing a good ball into the box after a promising build-up, however the cross was collected by the keeper, denying the opportunity for a goal.
In the 11th minute Wint lofted a ball over the defence towards Jardim who took the ball down and shot with it firing wide of the post and out for a goal kick.
The Sumas had defending to do themselves in the 23rd minute with a busy goal mouth scuffle but the ball was cleared, preventing the visitors from opening the scoring.
In the 32nd minute the Sumas broke forward with Mead having his header bounce back off the crossbar, but Jardim was positioned perfectly to fire the rebound home and give the Sumas the lead.
Minutes later, the Sumas nearly doubled their leader Osei broke away down the wing with pace, cutting inside and crossing the ball. The defender attempted to clear but it bounced off his teammate and out for a corner, nearly entering the back of the net.
As half-time approached Sam Green lined up a cross and whipped it into the box, where it was met by the head of Wilson, but the keeper was positioned ready to save the chance. The sides went into the break with the Sumas in the lead, with the score remaining 1-0.
In the 47th minute the visitors broke forward and got past Green however Lacey came out of goal to smother the ball and stop the shot.
The visitors upped the tempo with James Clark whipping in a cross into the middle of the box where Mullan connected with the ball and headed home and equaliser.
The Sumas did manage to score again not long after though however the header was ruled out due to a foul on the goalkeeper, meaning the score remained level at 1-1.
However, this didn’t last long with Virginia Water attacking again with a header bouncing off the bar before Mullan got his second of the game as the visitors took the lead.
The Sumas had several chances to level the scoring with Jardim firing a freekick wide of the target, before later then having another chance after a passage of interplay with Osei before the shot went just wide of the far post.
In the final minute of extra time the ball was floated into the Virginia Water box and Lewis Wilson was ready to pounce as he headed home at the back post to make the score 2-2, before the entire squad went to celebrate down the touchline.
It was an eventful afternoon, with the Sumas getting their record attendance for the season and both sides sharing the points as the season came to an end for both teams.
