A number of our youth section players were lucky enough to have the opportunity to train with coaches from local EFL Championship side Reading FC today. The players belonged to Emmbrook Junior School, who were randomly picked to attend the session prior to the Reading vs. Cardiff City game.
Emmbrook Juniors, who are fortunate to have so many talented young Sumas players, offered pupils at the school in years 3-6 who were attending the match, the chance to attend the training session with Reading FC Community coaching staff. The following squads were among those represented in the session:
U11 Sumas
U11 Jaguars
U11 Lions
U11 Girls
U8 Panthers
As well as U9s and U10s, and also a couple of WEFC Alumni from those teams.
After training players went to watch the match in the stadium next to the training dome, there was a great atmosphere inside with lots of families attending. Plenty of orange shirts were dotted around in between the blue and white inside the Select Car Leasing stadium on a lovely spring afternoon. It was great to see so many friendly faces throughout the family section and around the ground.
AFC Caversham were another local team selected to take part in a half time penalty shoot-out.
Unfortunately the result didn't go Reading's way with a 2-1 defeat, but the match was entertaining to watch with plenty of opportunities on both sides and some decent football played.
